Clinical Psychology, What is it?
Just what is online Clinical Psychology and EMDR therapy? Well, we’ll start with Clinical Psychology; a Clinical Psychologist provides therapy for individuals, families and groups, and they also supervise and teach other professionals to provide psychological interventions.
Becoming a qualified, and HCPC registered, Clinical Psychologist takes many years of experience and formal training in varied psychological theories and therapeutic models.
Clinical Psychologists first gain an undergraduate degree in psychology, usually followed by several years of relevant work experience, and then require further postgraduate study.
Finally, a three year, full-time doctorate in clinical psychology is undertaken whilst working with people of all ages and across a variety of specialisms. After completing the doctorate we then complete further specialised training in particular areas and therapies.
Clinical Psychologists offer expertise in assessment and integrating evidence-based approaches to best suit the needs of each client.
Why see a Clinical Psychologist? Because we are specialists in assisting people to identify and understand distress and trauma in their lives, help them to overcome obstacles, and to feel better and thrive in their daily lives.
Does Clinical Psychology have Specialisms?
Specialist therapy can include EMDR, IFS, CBT, CFT, ACT, and more. Doctoral training, along with continued professional development, supports clinical psychologists in providing several therapy approaches.
My further training and experience include:
- Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR),
- Internal Family Systems (IFS),
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Cognitive Focused Therapy (CFT),
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT),
- Parts work and Ego states
- and Mindfulness.
This training and experience enables me to offer various expertise in assessments and approaches. This is especially beneficial when integrating evidence-based psychological therapies to best suit the needs of each client, which can help you navigate through difficult times.
As I am also trained to assess the effects of distress and trauma in people’s lives, this can be relevant when assessment or legal reports are required. To discuss your mental health care and how EMDR, IFS, CBT, CFT and ACT therapies can help you, or for supervision enquiries, please contact me here.
