What is Clinical Psychology?

Just what is Clinical Psychology? Well, Clinical Psychologists provide therapy for individuals, families and groups and also supervise and teach other professionals to provide psychological interventions.

Becoming a qualified, Chartered and HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist takes many years of experience and formal training in varied psychological theories and therapeutic model.

Clinical Psychologists first gain an undergraduate degree in psychology, usually followed by several years of relevant work experience, and require further postgraduate study.

We then undertake a three year, full-time doctorate in clinical psychology working with people of all ages and across a variety of specialisms. After completing the doctorate we undertake further training to specialise in particular areas and therapies.

Clinical Psychologists offer expertise in assessment and integrating evidence-based approaches to suit the needs of each client.

Why see a Clinical Psychologist? Because we are specialists in helping people understand distress and trauma in their lives and helping them to feel better and thrive.

Does Clinical Psychology have Specialisms?

Specialist therapy can include CBT, CFT, EMDR, ACT, and more. Doctoral training, along with continued professional development, supports clinical psychologists in providing several therapy approaches.

My further training and experience include:

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR),
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Cognitive Focused Therapy (CFT),
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT),
  • Parts work and Ego states
  • and Mindfulness.

This training and experience enables me to offer various expertise in assessments and approaches. This is especially beneficial when integrating evidence-based psychological therapies to best suit the needs of each client.

Also trained to assess the effects of distress and trauma in people’s lives, this can be relevant when assessment or legal reports are required. To discuss your mental health care and how CFT EMDR ACT therapy can help you, or for supervision enquiries, please contact me here.”
